The Jakarta administration has reminded residents that they must park their vehicles on their property or run the risk having their cars towed.
Transportation Agency head Andri Yansyah said that according to a 2014 regulation, a car owner should have a garage on their property to park their vehicles.
“Without a garage, the resident shouldn’t be given a vehicle registration document [STNK]. However, if residents have an STNK, but park their cars on a residential street, we will tow the cars,” Andri said on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.
Andri said the agency was not only authorized to tow vehicles parked on sidewalks but also inside residential complexes, because the streets were all owned by the city.
Even though the policy had not been strictly enforced since the regulation deliberation in 2014, the transportation agency was now committed to monitoring its implementation, Andri said.
